Step 2 – Getting Your Affiliate Link

An Affiliate Link is bascially a website address like www.createyourfirstdomain.com however affiliate links include information about who is responsible for that link, most importantly you, the affiliate. If a customer clicks on a link you’ve posted and ends up buying the product you end up getting credit for the sale and receiving a commission. The affiliate link lets the website owner know who to reward for promoting his product.

Let’s talk about Clickbank links, since they seem to be the easiest to promote for the beginner.  You will need a Clickbank ID when you register.  It’s up to you what ID you create.  You will use that ID from clickbank no matter how many affiliate products you decide to promote. There are two ways to create personalized Affiliate Links…at clickbank an affiliate link is known as a Hoplink.

The most common way is to create your Hoplink automatically using the Clickbank Marketplace. When you have found the product you want to promote, just click the ‘Promote’ button to the right of the product listing and it will generate your personal Hoplink. Then you can copy the Hoplink address by highlighting it and pushing the “Ctrl” button and “c” button on your keyboard.  Now, put your mouse in a  blank .txt notepad file and hold Ctrl and “v” together.  This will “paste” what you just copied into your new notes file.  Now you can save the file on your desktop. You can copy the Hoplink address and paste it anywhere you want to promote the product!

My Clickbank ID is 4045863.  So, an example of a clickbank Hoplink for me would be: http://4045863.VENDOR.hop.clickbank.net <<<this is not a genuine link, just an example. If you decide to create your link manually to make the HopLink work, you just replace VENDOR with the vendor’s ClickBank nickname. Some ClickBank vendors will have their nickname listed on their product website if they have a page for affiliates.

As a final note! Be sure to TEST THE HOPLINK so you’ll be comissioned for every sale you make! To test your HopLink to make sure it’s working correctly, you can either enter your HopLink directly into your browser’s address bar and hit Enter, or click on your HopLink directly if you’ve already posted it somewhere online. Once you’re on the vendor’s website, click their Buy Now button so you’re taken to the ClickBank order form. If you scroll to the bottom of the order form, you should see [affiliate=yournickname]. Mine would look like [affiliate=4045863].

Step 1 – Find a Product to Promote

This post is basically for the Newbie.  The person who wants to start making money online and you have no idea where to start or what to do.  It really does come down to 6 Simple Steps – This post is going to describe Step 1 – Finding a Product

1. Find a Product to Promote – Being an Affiliate can be a wonderful experience! There is no customer service, no inventory and no shipping of products involve.  None of that to deal with. You are simply using a coded link that will send people to the personal or company that DOES have to deal with all of the things I mentioned above.  If someone you referred to the site or person buys, you make a sale!

That’s all there is to it.

There is no such thing as THE PERFECT PRODUCT to promote.  I am unconcerned with WHAT you promote as I just want to show you HOW to promote it.

You can choose to promote a product from Clickbank or anything you want – you just have to sign up to be an affiliate for whichever company you chose and get your affiliate link (it’s usually free to be an affiliate for most companies).

Let me use an example.  For instance, if there is a hobby that you love, and you know a lot about it.  There may be an affiliate program that you can join and get paid to promote it. However, for most of you, I recommend starting by promoting products from Clickbank.

ClickBank
is the largest provider of digital products in the world.  Publishers from all over the world list their eBooks on Clickbank to sell them and then people like you choose to promote them by being an affiliate.
Once you sign up for a free affiliate account with Clickbank (easy to do), you are qualified to promote any of their thousands and thousands of products. Once you’re a seasoned affiliate, you may wish to promote ALL of their products!

The commissions are HUGE.  We’re talking, 50%… 60% … even 75% commission for a sale. This is the best part to their huge variety of digital products.  And Clickbank pays like clockwork once you start making sales.

Now let’s talk about how to find that product on Clickbank you want to start with.  Your first affiliate products! The easiest way is to use the “Marketplace” feature on their website.  Some people like to use a site called cb-analytics.com. Go ahead and check out the site.  There is a lot of stuff going on there.  At the top are 3 lists of products that are grouped by different metrics of something Clickbank calls “gravity”. You’ll see Top Gravity, Top Gravity Gain, Total Top Gravity. Gravity is how Clickbank presents the popularity of a product.

If one unique affiliate sells ONE copy of their product in the last 8 weeks, that product is awarded ONE gravity point. If one unique affiliate sells ONE HUNDRED copies of their product in the last 8 weeks, that product is still only awarded ONE gravity point.  So, for example, if a product has a gravity of 250, that simply means that 250 unique affiliates have made at least ONE sale of that product in the last 8 weeks.

Gravity can tell you 2 important things:

1.  How well other affiliates are converting that product into a sale, and

2.  How many other affiliates you are going to be competing with in making a sale.

I try to promote products that have a gravity of at least 32, but I stay away from products that are being promoted by HUNDREDS of affiliates as your sales will likely be less because of the competition.  So if you’re a beginning/newbie…stay away from the HUGE gravity numbers.  Those are more than likely being promoted by what we Super Affiliates.  The seasoned, know-every-trick-in-the-book affiliates that are hard to compete with.

Your Social Website should be clear and consistent. Your followers will know what it is about by the consistent content. Your site should focus on one idea or subject, don’t have multiple subjects as it creates confusion. You want participants to know what to expect.

Follow Your Heart’s Desire. If your Social Group subject is focused on something you don’t really care about, your followers will eventually realize it. Find something you’re passionate about and you will motivate them to join you on your journey. Don’t pick a subject just because it looks profitable. And don’t promote anything with greed in mind as you will soon give up. Remember, give people want they want and you will get what you need, Choose what makes you happy!

Do it Your Way. Your followers need to have you, your style and your personality stamped on whatever it is you’re promoting from the very beginning. Let the content reflect your own passions and keep yourself accountable for consistent, relevant updates. This is of vital importance for list-building to succeed. Of course this takes time.

Don’t Hesitate to Ask for Help. As soon as you’ve gotten your group up and running, ask for whatever help you need. Ask people to post responses, comment, and moderate on your behalf. Generate as much interest as possible by starting great discussions and asking people to join in. The more people you can get involved, the better!

Try to Keep Everyone Interested. Ask engaging questions. Offer good advice and always be positive. You want to keep people coming back for more. Avoid the temptation to post news that your readers can find anywhere.

Offer Encouragement. Use your social marketing group as a way to thank them for continuing to come back and contribute. Maintain contact with your list every day.

Now enjoy what’s coming your way! Following these steps will help to establish a sound following for you and will help to drive traffic to your list. The premise behind list building is knowing how to generate and drive the interested to your selected niche. Practice these steps and you will be list building.

If you want to enter the affiliate marketing world, you need to have the persistence and know-how to reach your goals. Once you’ve made up your mind and set your goals, it’s time to make your presence known on the Internet. If you’re ready, you’ll need to learn how by finding a good step-by-step guide from someone who has been in your exact shoes, someone who started from scratch, who made up his or her mind, and took that first step. But before you even do that, you need to decide these first steps:

Find a Niche or Use your Passion

The Internet does make it possible to sell to the entire world, but don’t make the mistake of thinking the world is your client. Keep in mind and remember, in affiliate marketing, less is definitely more. In other words, find a niche and build a reputation within that niche. Don’t try to be everything to everybody. First, find a special area and get good at promoting it. As you grow your business and build up a list of prospective clients, then you may consider promoting products in another niche market. When you first begin, you want to be competitive, and you can’t do that if you spread yourself too thin.

Trying to do too much at once for a beginning market is a surefire way to burn out. Your first task should be to learn the basics. Once you’ve learned the ropes, then you can add more niches to your lineup of products.

Conduct Keyword Research

Before you start going crazy with websites, adwords, and other marketing efforts, do your research. You’ll want to know the popular keywords and search phrases for your niche so you can incorporate them into your website or domain. The Google Keyword Tool is a great way to start. Whether you’re looking for descriptive words and phrases or content, this tool will give you the information you need to develop your web content. And it’s free.

Try Being Different

Show who you really are! Let your personality be known. Be different. Often, the “fun” sites are most popular sites. Have fun with your niche.

Be Organized

Make sure that your website is easy to navigate. If someone lands on your website and can’t figure where to go, they’ll quickly click off the site. Keep your site user-friendly, and you’ll get more repeat traffic.
Finally, steer clear of bells and whistles. Avoid website clutter, and it will be a better experience for everyone. You want to keep your visitors coming back.

The First Step is the Hardest

Succeeding in affiliate marketing is not just about the big picture. It’s about taking small steps toward your destination. But you have to take that first step. Start small and move toward a single goal to begin with. As the profits roll in and you learn a few basic rules for success, you can gradually build the affiliate marketing empire you’ve always dreamed of. Once your empire is built, you’ll have passive income that will last for years. = Bliss!

How To Get Traffic to your Website

Jan 22
Posted by Carol Estep Filed in list building

I often get asked how to build a website that generates a lot of traffic. There are a few factors that go into building a good domain. Here are also a few simple strategies that will work. You must have good, informative content. You have to be ‘real’. But, more than anything, you need content that will last. If you’re looking for great ways of getting traffic to your website, here are some tried and true methods that will bring you the visitors you need.

Informative content draws traffic to your website.

Keep your writing informative and valuable and to the point. Keep focused and never lose sight of why you’ve created your website. If you offer relative and exciting content, readers will keep coming back for more. Do your research and keep on top of all the latest information. Most of all, focus on providing real value to your readers, don’t over-exaggerate with a lot of nonsense. And don’t make your site a knock-off of someone else’s!

What do you want your readers to learn from you? What can you offer from your own personal experience?

Being ‘real’ draws traffic to your website.

Position yourself as a friend or teacher, standing side-by-side with your readers. In order to connect with your readers, they’ll need to see you as someone like them—someone they can relate to. They need to see you as an ally who is ready to jump in and help.

Up-to-date content keeps readers coming back for more.

Every now and then you’ll have write about tends. There’s nothing wrong with that. . However, if what you write is as valuable ten years from now as it is today, you’ll be providing the kind of content that will be as helpful to next year’s visitors as it was to those who read it the day you wrote it.
If you focus on content that endures across the years, word of mouth will drive more and more hungry people to your website. Strive to provide timeless content, and your website content will grow.
There are many way to drive traffic to your website. Some of them are search engine optimization, article marketing, and pay-per-click ads. However, don’t lose sight of the basics I’ve talked about above to get traffic and keep those visitors coming back for more. Staying authentic with your readers and providing good valuable content that endures across the years will not only attract traffic but will also keep your readers coming back for more. = Bliss!

How to Promote an Affiliate Product with No List and No Traffic = Bliss?

Jan 16
Posted by Carol Estep Filed in list building

You ask, how can I promote this affiliate product if I have no list yet, and no traffic? This is a common question. If you’re a beginner to Internet Marketing usually you will have no list and no traffic. You want to immediately promote an affiliate product and get some $money$ coming in. Am I right? And you’re not sure how to get people to your new website. Right?

To be polite, but blunt, you’re looking at it from a backwards approach. The first and foremost thing you need to be focusing on is building your list of subscribers. The steps are simple but they must be followed in a certain order. You can have the best website and affiliate product in the world but if no one knows about it how can you sell anything?

You can’t. No way, nada. You need the list first. How you ask?

Sure a few people might stumble on your site from search engines but that doesn’t mean anything. You need is a steady stream of people to your website who are interested in your product. You must focus on building your list first. You build your list by having them opt in to your squeeze page, or on your blog etc. Anywhere you can put an opt-in form. Once you have this list of subscribers you can then send them to the affiliate products you want to promote. And yes, this can take some time. But with a little patience, and effort you will succeed! = Bliss :-)

You will be lost without a list. Period. Yes, there are other ways you can send bits of traffic to promote an affiliate product such as Pay Per Click etc., but to be successful in Internet Marketing you must have a large subscriber list. This is a given. To become good at Listbuilding, you will need to learn how. There are many ways to build your list of subscribers but the easiest approach is to put up a simple squeeze page. A squeeze page is a basic page that has an opt-in form on it, with a call to action asking the visitor to enter their name and email address. You are asking for one thing, for people to opt in. Once they opt in they are on your list and you are free to email them.

There are many ways to send traffic to a squeeze page. One of the fastest is by doing a teleseminar. Other ways include article marketing, blogging and pay per click. If this is beginning to sound confusing don’t despair. We can teach you everything you need to know in step by step videos over at http://www.CreateYourFirstDomain.com. My friend, Chris Farrell, has a membership site where we teach brand new beginners how to get started online in very easy step-by-step videos that even a child could understand! = Bliss :-)

Catering to the Wants and Needs of Potential Buyers

Oct 4
Posted by Carol Estep Filed in affiliate marketing

A lot has been said about list building and internet marketing. One thing most coaches leave out is finding out what your clients want and need . It’s actually probably the most important step when it comes to Online Marketing.

If you aren’t finding a need, you’re really not going to get very far in your efforts to make money online. This has to be done before product development, before marketing, before find an affiliate product, before anything. You have to be able to supply what people want and need. If you don’t, you’re wasting time and resources.

Let’s say that it’s around March or April. You know that people are shopping for Easter Products at this time. You decide to launch an Easter based product, or made a special Easter sale. You realize that there are people on the Net with a want and money to spend. You provide the wanted item, and make money. That’s the essence of how to go about finding a need.

It’s all about target traffic. As I just said, you have people browsing the Net that are “just browsing,” and then you have people that are actually shopping. Obviously, you want the ones who are spending money. Finding what they want or need is the first part of targeting your traffic. You don’t care about the guy browsing, you want the guy ready to buy.

Of course, the process of finding a need is a bit more complicated than just knowing that Easter (or any holiday or special occasion) is coming up, so you should develop an Easter line. It takes a bit of market analysis. Let’s say that you have this brilliant idea for a launch. Let’s say that it’s a line of instruction manuals on how to do something specific.

The first thing you do in finding a need is condense this whole idea into as few words as possible. Now you can take this to your keyword tool. Plug your words into your keyword search tool and let’s see what happens. Your keyword tool will kick out every (more or less) current combination of your keyword and how often it got hit.

Based on this analysis, can you say that by doing this search that you’re finding a need? A want? If you’re not, perhaps there’s some variation on your keywords that will actually hit higher than your original version. It can be a boring process, but sticking through with it will pay off in the end.

Now that you’re done finding a need, you can begin making your instruction manuals, or finding an affiliate product to promote for whatever need you see out there. You can then move on to pricing and marketing and everything else. But this is how we begin.

Once you have the wants and needs of your potential clients, and have your manual, ebook, or product in place, you can start building your list of potential buyers=Bliss!

You Need an Autoresponder!

Sep 25
Posted by Carol Estep Filed in list building

First of all, if you’re a total ‘newbie’ you’re probably wondering what in the world is an autoresponder?  An autoresponder is a tool or email system that allows you to manage, organize and automate the process of collecting email addresses through opt-in and distributing information via email.  Most companies, including all of the best companies use autoresponders!  I use Aweber.com to handle my mailing lists because they are the most well-know autoresponder online and their features are wonderful = Bliss! They are one of the most highly respected companies known online. I highly recommend that you use them if you are serious about building your own mailing list.

Once you are signed up to an autoresponder service like Aweber you will have access to many of their services that include list building tools, you’ll be able to generate opt-in forms, tracking, analytics and even reports. You can simply create a new list, the paste the web form code on your web page, and and sit back and wait.  The autoresponder will do the rest.  You can send a series of emails that are sent out once a week for however many weeks you choose.  It’s very easy. All you have to do is create a follow-up sequence of email messages, save them in in your Aweber control panel, and each time a new visitor signs up to your mailing list they will be sent the emails, all staggered at intervals that you choose. The feature and benefits of using a service like Aweber, far out weigh the small fee = Bliss :-D

List Building by way of Social Media=Bliss!

Wondering what in the world Social Media is?

Social media includes all kinds of “social networking sites”. It is a relatively new way of marketing even for experienced internet marketers. In a nutshell, social media allows people to connect over the internet.

You will meet people with common interests in your local area and from around the world, or hook up with former classmates or co-workers. You can post information that you want others to see—photos, words, links to sites you like, or videos.

People build relationships and share information back and forth. Building relationships is the most important part of social media.  It makes people want to hear what you have to say=bliss!

What Role can Social Media Play in Your Overall Internet Marketing Strategy?

By combining the social media and your personality with the power of the internet you can tap into an entirely new experience, gain an audience and fast-forward your list building success=bliss!

Even traditional businesses use social media as one of their internet marketing strategies. Even President Barack Obama used social media to get out his message during the 2008 election!

Just how do you use social networks for list building? You provide information that people are searching for. This lets you build your reputation as an expert. Good content is key. When you give good content people are apt to check out your website over and over. Since they already like you and believe you provide good info, they are more likely to opt-in to your list or even buy directly from your website=bliss!

Now I bet you’re wondering which network should you join? There is no one “best” network for everyone. Each of the social networks has a different look and feel and appeals to different people.

If your goal is list building, then it makes sense to take some time to be sure there is a good match between the people on that network and the people who would be attracted to your site.

Look at the different sites with your customers in mind. Are the people here likely to benefit from your products or services? There are lots of social network fish in the sea! And nobody says you only have to join one!  Join as many as you see fit for your services.

We all like to do business with people we like—but social networks are NOT the place to do heavy promotion. In fact, obvious and repeated self-promotion can back-fire on you and totally turn people off. Simply share and have fun=bliss! Now and then put a link to your blog or website if the content is relevant to the conversation or is a special value to others. Just don’t overdo it.

How do you use social media for list building if you limit self-promotion you ask? Well, the first step would be to get people to your website. Every network allows you to set up a page that tells something about you. People on the network will check out your page to learn more about you. So have a link to your website and include some information about you and your business. Make the space interesting by personalizing it. Add some photographs or customize the background. Be yourself, be distinct and provide good info. This will encourage more visitors to check out your website.

List building through social networking takes time—it shouldn’t be viewed as a one-time event. Try to participate in social media every day as one of your internet marketing strategies.  But don’t spend too much time there…it’s only one strategy of many for building your list.

The best way to use social media for list building is to provide great content so that people come to you–they will ask for more information, and look for your website. Then you will have built some rapport with them and when they see your opt-in box they are much more likely to say yes=bliss!

Re-writing Articles to Maximize Your Time and Drive Traffic to Your Site=Bliss

Sep 3
Posted by Carol Estep Filed in list building

Writing articles to drive traffic to your squeeze page is one of the best internet marketing tools you can have . It can seem like a lot of work, especially if you want to drive a ton of traffic…and of course you want to drive lots of traffic, right? So how do you do this without getting totally overwhelmed, and how do you do it in the shortest amount of time possible?

Well, I have an awesome answer…re-write your articles!  I know this might sound a little nutty, but it’s not. And it will save you oodles (<-Carolism ;) ) of time. Here’s how this works…

You open an article you have already written and hopefully saved on your computer, go through it, paragraph by paragraph, and re-write each one. It’s really very simple. Just read the first sentence, and then say the same thing…in a different way. Here’s an example:

Paragraph Number 1. The quickest way to making money online is to build a list of people that want what you have to offer…and have come to know and trust you and your recommendations. Once you have a list built, you can find products and services that your buyers want and need and you can email them information and include a link for them to buy.

Now, let’s re-write that paragraph.

If you want to start making money online, you are going to need to build a list. Your list should be a group of people that look to you for info about  products you recommend, and which services you use that they can also use and profit from. As you build a relationship with your list, they will trust that what you are telling them is true and feel comfortable buying the things you offer.

There you have it! You are basically saying the same thing, just in a different way. You are cutting your time and work in half but, the content is still there…you have already created it…now you are just going to say it in a different way. And actually, you can do this more than just twice. You can re-write an article three or four times. .

Article writing doesn’t have to take a lot of time. Neither do you have to come up with many different topics. If you use this method, you can write on four or five topics and end up with anywhere from seven to twenty different articles. This will put tons of articles out there to get you maximum exposure and drive a lot of traffic to your squeeze page. These are the best types of internet marketing tools—ones that are effective and save you time making you blissfully happy!
